For ‘Make a Difference Day’ – Support the Fight for Literacy

Started by the now-defunct magazine, USA Weekly, ‘Make a Difference Day’ was created as an annual community service event.  Not that you needed another reason, but we here at Global Grandmothers, think it’s a fantastic opportunity to donate to one of our vetted nonprofits focused on children.

I don’t know about you, but when I think about ways to create meaningful change, I think of empowerment.  And what better way can we empower young people than with the power of literacy? Our partner, Room to Read, focuses on deep, systemic transformation to increase literacy rates within schools in low-income countries.  We wholeheartedly endorse their efforts and would love if you joined the cause as well!

We know how difficult it can be to choose which organizations to give to to maximize impact, particularly if you’re squeezed for time.  Lucky for you, we’ve already done the research!  Room for Read’s impact is well documented – their reach has spanned 11.5 million children across more than 20,000 communities in 14 countries in Asia and Africa and aims to reach 15 million children by 2020.  The breakdown of their organization’s reach can be seen in greater detail here.

If you’d like to support Room to Read’s efforts, please do so here.  Simply select ‘Room to Read’ from the ‘Select a Non-Profit’ drop down bar and follow the instructions!  Why should you donate through our site? Normally, PayPal takes a cut out of your donation, but thanks to a generous Global Grandmothers’ donor, your PayPal fee will be covered if you donate through our site!  This means 100% of your donation will go directly to Room to Read.

Room to Read has passed our rigorous vetting process and we fully support its mission. What better time to help out those at Room to Read fighting to increase literacy rates than on Make a Difference Day?
