Gratitude for Mother’s in May – A Tribute to Nurse-Family Partnership and Mothers Everywhere

As April turns to May, some of us look forward to the weather heating up, others may eagerly await blooming flowers, and some may anticipate the baseball season entering its second month! One thing we all have in common, however, is the celebration of mothers on Mother’s Day.

When the sun is shining and flowers abound, what better time to show gratitude to the mothers in our lives?! Mothers arguably deserve more than just a day of appreciation, so we’re doing our best here at Global Grandmothers, to celebrate moms by showcasing a nonprofit we’re proud to support – Nurse-Family Partnership.

If you are unfamiliar, Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP) is an evidence-based, community health program that serves low-income women pregnant with their first child. Each new mom is partnered with a registered nurse early in her pregnancy and receives ongoing nurse home visits. This support lasts throughout the first two years of the babies life. It is a life-transforming partnership, for the mom and her child.

Nurse-Family Partnership helps families — and the communities they live in — become stronger while saving money for state, local and federal governments. We at Global Grandmothers recognize that early investment in the life of a new mom and her baby can result in lifelong benefits in health, education, and quality of life.

Not only has NFP served over 280,000 families since its inception, but their results have proven that contributions bring a 5x return. By working proactively with at-risk mothers and their children, NFP provides invaluable assistance to young families and even helps save future public money and resources.

As part of our month-long tribute to mothers, NFP’s mission to assist mother’s across the nation in child-rearing practices fits perfectly.  The full details of their impressive progress and considerable impact can be seen at their website here.

We encourage you to read more about Nurse-Family Partnership so you can be as impressed as we are. If you feel inclined to support NFP, we encourage you to do so by donating to them through our site here. Not only do we fully endorse their mission, but the Center for High Impact Philanthropy recommends Nurse-Family Partnership as an exemplary program for donors who want to make a high-impact investment to give children a strong start.

If you prefer to take action to support their cause, you can find suggestions for how best to do so from NFP here as well.

Let’s celebrate the magical relationships of mothers and children throughout the month and remember…..every grandmother is also a mother!

Happy Spring!
