Q. What is Global Grandmothers?
A. Global Grandmothers is an online movement committed to providing support to children in need worldwide. Global Grandmothers promotes charitable giving, offers tools to expand global awareness, and encourages “linked giving”–giving to a child in need when you give to someone you love.
Q. Must I be a grandmother?
A. No. Anyone can be a Global Grandmother by donating to child-centered non-profits. Grandmother is a term that brings to mind loving and caring for someone. Anyone can love and care for a child in need.
Q. Does it cost money to be a Global Grandmother?
A. No. However we encourage you to give generously to child-centered non-profits and we make it easy for you to do so. You can make a donation directly through the GG website to organization we have vetted or donate to the charity of your choice.
Q. Are there various ways to donate?
A. Yes. Our goal is to make it easier for you to give to children in need worldwide through whatever means works best for you. Global Grandmothers encourages linked giving, giving in connection to loved ones. This can be for special occasions like birthdays, but you can also give annually in honor of a loved one or sponsor a child jointly with a family member. For more information, see Linked Giving.
Q. I’m confused about Linked Giving. If I give my niece a doll, do I have to give the amount I spent on the doll to one of these organizations?
A. No. The core idea is that Global Grandmothers give to children in need. If you link your donations to gifts to your loved ones, neither the amount nor the timing needs to be exactly the same.
Q. What specifically does Global Grandmothers do?
A. Global Grandmothers researches and recommends children’s non-profits, provides resources on children’s issues, and offers tools to promote global awareness.
Q. Can I make donations directly to the Global Grandmothers’ organization?
A. Yes. Global Grandmothers appreciates donations to support the expansion of our movement and maintenance of our website.
Q. Can I donate directly through Global Grandmothers in honor of someone?
A. Yes, you can make a donation in honor of someone. Go to Give Now and follow the directions. You will receive an acknowledgement from Global Grandmothers.
Q. Is my donation to Global Grandmothers tax deductible?
A. Yes. Global Grandmothers is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit public benefit corporation and is not organized for the private gain of any person. The Global Grandmothers tax-exempt number is 27-3196090. Global Grandmothers is also registered with the State of California Attorney General’s Registry of Charitable Trusts.
Q. Your website lists organizations that benefit children. How do I know they are reputable?
A. Global Grandmothers has reviewed these organizations through Charity Navigator, Wise Giving, Great Nonprofits, Guidestar, Charity Watch, and GiveWell. Recommended organizations must initially have a four star rating from Charity Navigator, and have at least one additional positive review from one of the other rating services. After that screening, we look for evidence that they make a real impact on the lives of children by interviewing charity staff and reading their publications.
Q. Are these non-profits supporting children only in the United States?
A. No. The mission of Global Grandmothers is to support children in need worldwide. Therefore the non-profits on the Global Grandmothers website have a national and global focus.
Q. Must I give to the same organization every time?
A. No. You can give to as many different organizations as you wish and as often as you wish. Your gifts need not be to organizations listed on the Global Grandmothers website.
Q. Is there a minimum donation required?
A. No. The amount and timing of each gift is personal and dependent on your ability to give. Any donation, large or small, can make a difference in the life of a child in need.
Q. Will you track my donations to these organizations?
A. No. Global Grandmothers does not track your donations. Global Grandmothers does provide, however, a “Linked Giving Journal” for you to track your donations. This journal is available on the website. View Linked Giving Journal.
Q. Are you a religious organization?
A. No. Global Grandmothers is not affiliated with any religion.

A. A good starting point is the Global Grandmothers Resources tab on this website. If you join our mailing list or become a member, you will also receive a monthly Global Gram which highlights global issues, current books, and giving ideas.
Q. What can I do to spread the word about Global Grandmothers?
